fight for democracy and join the society was the main
goal of the Confea´s former-president, Luiz
Carlos dos Santos. In the end of the military regimen,
the civil engineer tried to make all the Council´s
projects in order to help the population, in a direct
or indirect form. In a period of hard repressions
of the military dictatorship, the Confea´s former-president,
Luiz Carlos dos Santos, was responsible for important
facts that marked the country in the end of the 80´s.
One of most significant act was the fight for the
new Brazilian Constitution. “We fight for a
free constituent, fair and sovereign, that could offer
more rights to the workers and the population”,
clarified Santos. Another action that marked the engineer´s
mandate was the discussion about the scandal of the
seeds. Later, this subject began the discussion about
genetically modified food and organisms. Confea tried
to expose to the society the risks of using toxic
chemistry in agricultural areas and stimulated the
combat of these chemistries in foods. “It was
our obligation to alert the population about the curses
related to these inventions”, affirmed. |

Caminar
lado a lado con la sociedad en la lucha por la democracia.
Esta fue la meta del ex-presidente del Confea, Luiz
Carlos dos Santos. Al fin del régimen militar,
el ingeniero civil hizo con que todos los proyectos
del Consejo pasasen por el objetivo de ayudar a la
población, de forma directa o indirecta. En
un período de duras represiones de la dictadura
militar, el ex-presidente del Confea, Luiz Carlos
dos Santos, fue responsable por hechos importantes
que marcaron al país en el final de la década
de 80. Uno de los más significativos fue la
lucha por la nueva constitución brasileña.
“Luchamos por una constituyente libre, justa
y soberana, que pudiese ofrecer más derechos
laborales y favorecer a la población”,
aclaró el “mineiro” (nacido en
Minas Gerais). Otra acción que marcó
el mandato del ingeniero fue la de levantar la discusión
sobre el escándalo de las semillas, lo que
dio inicio, posteriormente, a los cuestionamientos
sobre los problemas provocados por los transgénicos.
El Confea orientó a la sociedad sobre los riesgos
de los agrotóxicos e incentivó el combate
de estas químicas en los alimentos. “Era
nuestra obligación alertar a la población
sobre los maleficios de esas invenciones poco cuestionadas”,
afirmó. |
