and agricultural engineer Onofre Brage de Faria, 72,
born in Inhapim, Minas Gerais State, was Confea President
from 1982-1984 at the end of military rule in Brazil.
His administration was marked by strong incentives
and support for the Confea councils and for technological
advances. Friends called him the “sacred monster
of the task” for anyone who remembers Onofre
Braga de Faria, as President of Confea or during his
entire life, knows that he dedicated himself to work
and often gave up his leisure time. Onofre did not
experience significant problems as president. “We
were reflecting on the evolution of Confea with government
agencies, the private sector, engineers, architects
and all the professionals in the field. We were able
to resolve all the problems that arose, principally
bureaucratic ones and we were always successful”,
he explained. According to historian Dr. José
Mauro Savino Filó who worked in the field of
education during Onofre´s administration, the
military government always offered support and incentives
to the System. “ There was considerable stimulus
and support. There were ties between the Council and
members of the Ministries and the President of the
Republic. We had complete freedom to act”, he
remembered. |

Onofre Braga de Faria, de 72 años, nacido en
Inhapim fue presidente del Confea a principio de los
años 80 - 1982-1984-, y final del período
militar. Su gestión fue marcada por un fuerte
estímulo y apoyo a los Consejos y a las realizaciones
tecnológicas. Los amigos lo llamaban el “monstruo
sagrado del deber”, pues quien se recuerda de
Onofre Braga de Faria, mientras era presidente del
Confea y durante toda su trayectoria de vida, sabe
que él daba su vida por el trabajo y muchas
veces no respetaba ni siquiera sus horas de ocio.
Onofre no recuerda haber pasado por grandes problemas
mientras fue presidente. “Estábamos pensando
la evolución del Confea con los órganos
públicos, iniciativa privada, ingenieros, arquitectos
y todos los profesionales del área. Supimos
resolver todos los problemas que surgieron, principalmente
de orden burocrático y siempre obtuvimos gran
éxito”, explica. De acuerdo con el historiador,
Dr José Mauro Savino Filó, que trabajó
en el área de educación durante la gestión
de Onofre, el Gobierno Militar siempre le ofreció
gran apoyo y estímulo al Sistema. “Hubo
mucho estímulo y apoyo. Existían articulaciones
del Consejo y entre los Ministerios y el Presidente
de la República. Teníamos plena libertad
de actuación”, recordó. |
